The Way

If you did not see my introductory post yesterday, I am going to post a blog every day in April, with encouraging scripture, reflections, and a worship song to meditate on. My prayer is that we would all take a second during our day to pause and reposition our hearts. I pray we would seek and find God’s goodness in the midst of all the distractions, chaos, and pain.

Take a moment to read these verses in John, meditate, journal, and reflect.

“"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 14:1-7 ESV

Jesus, the night before He died on the cross, says to his disciples “Let not your hearts be troubled.” They had good reason to be troubled, as moments before, Jesus told them that there was a traitor among them (John 13:21), and that He was leaving them, but they could not follow. They were losing someone they loved dearly and walked closely with for 3 years. I find His words so comforting in these verses, because He takes the fear of the unknown, and directs the attention right back on Himself. He takes on the burden and weight of the fear Thomas is experiencing, and essentially says, “You don’t need to know where I am going, because I am the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father is through me.”

Reflection Question: What is flooding your troubled heart today? The hurt and fear of the disciples that day is no different than the hurt and fear we experience today. Jesus fully knows what these feel like and wants to bring you peace and comfort. Will you seek Him and allow His peace to flood your heart instead?
